CAR1 - 1975 Indy 500 McLaren Sneva #68
Tom Sneva joined Penske Racing in 1975, and qualified in the fourth starting spot for the Indianapolis 500®, with a four-lap average speed of 190.094 mph. Sneva was running in fifth spot on Lap 126 when his McLaren made contact with the Rascar of Eldon Rasmussen in Turn 2. Sneva's car flipped into the outside wall in front of the suites. Sneva suffered burns, but Rasmussen was unhurt. Bobby Unser won the 1975 Indianapolis 500, and Sneva was credited with finishing in 22nd position. Five weeks later, Sneva was back in action at Pocono. On 13 September, Sneva won the 150-mile Michigan Grand Prix in another McLaren with Norton livery.
